The Big Boost

The Scarman Trust is national charity committed to helping citizens bring about change in their community in the way they want and a bottom up approach to regenerating and maintaining healthy communities. We give practical support and unlock sources of funding for hundreds of remarkable people with a ‘ Can Do ’ attitude. Our philosophy is that all communities are wealthy, rich in assets such as skills, knowledge and networks that often go to waste.

Funding Priorities:

To encourage social entrepreneurship among young people, supporting new community projects and the young people themselves.

The Scarman Trust would like to hear from young people who are keen to get involved in their communities. The awards help young people set up and run projects that will make a lasting difference to them as well as to the areas they live in. A Big Boost Award is cash plus the support to help young people make their ideas a reality. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and run in partnership with The Prince’s Trust, UnLtd and Changemakers, grant awards are between between £500 to £5000. The average award is £2500. Awards are given to individuals or small groups (with a maximum group size of 4). The programme intends to give out 2,400 awards to 16-25 year olds over the two years that the programme will run.
